Arwen Valdez

Greetings! I work in a variety of media: acrylics, oils, watercolors, stained glass, and now – basketry. I share my love for art with the local community through classes, retreats,  fundraising and awareness projects. I enjoy painting landscapes as well as the simple, daily moments in life. As an animal lover, I am especially pleased with the success of my commissioned pet portraits that allow me to pay it forward by giving part of my proceeds to animal welfare organizations.

My work is inspired by my travels abroad, the rich arts, culture & indigenous stories from the Pacific Northwest, my family & friends,  and the animals. I also want to express my gratitude for the ability to live here in Burley on the traditional lands of Suquamish and other Coast Salish Tribes. My home is a personal sanctuary situated on a lovely wooded property where I am able to see and hear the animals and birds sing their daily songs.

I love the challenge and opportunities for growth that every painting, glass panel and basket brings to me; fulfilling my goal of conveying, through my work, the joy and wonder I feel in daily life . – Arwen Valdez (legal name: Tina Marohn) – Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Art in the Community:

November 2015 to 2017 – Co-Chair for Edmonds Art Studio Tour

2009 to 2012 – Taught art classes to highly capable students at Terrace Park Elementary School.

2006 to 2010 – Taught classes in creating mandala drawing at the local community center, spiritual retreats, and in elementary school classes.

2007 to 2008 – Conceived and orchestrated the publication of The Women of Mary’s Place, a book of stories about 16 homeless and formerly homeless Seattle women, with accompanying portraits painted by 16 women artists. This was a labor of love to bring more awareness and beauty to these women who are invisible to most of us. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these books went directly to support the day shelter where these women find support and refuge.
